Case study — Commercial equipment financing

Golden Capital – a website, dealer portal and CRM for equipment financing

We designed and built Golden Capital's website, an invite-only portal where equipment dealers track their deals, and the internal CRM that carries each deal to funding.

Overview

Three products for one financing business

Golden Capital, based in Overland Park, Kansas, arranges equipment financing for businesses across the U.S., from construction and trucking to agriculture, through a network of lending partners. Equipment dealers and vendors refer their customers to Golden Capital, so the business serves two audiences: borrowers and the dealers who send them. We built a public website for both, a partner portal where dealers submit applications and follow each deal, and an internal CRM where the Golden Capital team manages documents, lenders and approvals from application to funding.

The challenge

What had to change.

  1. 01 — Problem

Deal status lived in Salesforce, where dealers can't see it. Any update on a customer's financing had to come from someone on the Golden Capital team.

    Solution

A partner portal that mirrors the pipeline from Salesforce and shows each dealer only their own deals, in plain-language stages, updated as they move.

  2. 02 — Problem

Deal records carry sensitive customer financial data. Dealer access had to be tightly controlled, with each dealership limited to its own deals and nothing else.

    Solution

Invite-only accounts approved by Golden Capital, multi-factor sign-in, access checks on every page and request, and an audit log of sign-ins, deal views and downloads.

  3. 03 — Problem

Every application arrives as a stack of documents (credit apps, invoices, bank statements, tax returns) that someone has to sort, read and type into the system.

    Solution

A repeatable OCR process classifies each upload and pulls applicant and equipment details into the deal record. AI steps in only for files OCR can’t read, so token spend stays low.

Process

How we built it.

01 — Discovery

Mapping how a deal moves

Discovery centered on Golden Capital's process: how an application comes in, moves through internal review, underwriting, approval and docs, and reaches funding. We mapped the team's Salesforce objects field by field, from accounts and contacts to opportunities, approvals, lender submissions and equipment, so every product shares the same vocabulary and existing records carry over cleanly.

02 — Design

Plain language outside, depth inside

Dealers see Golden Capital's internal stage names translated into statuses they understand, and once a deal is approved it never appears to slip backward. The portal works on desktop and phone, in light or dark mode. The CRM is built for daily use, with saved list views, inline editing, a command palette and color cues for deals aging in a stage.

03 — Website build

Rebuilding the public site

The website moved from a containerized Flask app to Next.js. We organized it around Golden Capital's two audiences, borrowers and dealer partners, and added landing pages for key equipment types and industries, structured data and a sitemap for search, analytics on every key action, and a credit application that lives on the site itself.

04 — Platform build

Built on Supabase, connected to the rest of the stack

The portal and CRM run on Next.js and Supabase Postgres, with row-level security on user data. They connect to the rest of Golden Capital's stack: Salesforce for deal data, Box for documents, Jotform for applications, QuickBooks for reporting and Resend for email. Document intake is deliberately OCR-first: a repeatable extraction process handles routine files, and AI is reserved for the exceptions to keep token spend down. Automated tests check the portal's sign-in, session and access rules on every run.

Core features

What it does.

  1. 01

Every deal, from App In to Funded

Dealers see each of their deals move through plain-language stages, from App In through underwriting, approval, docs and funding. The page refreshes as statuses change, alerts flag approvals and new stipulations, and funded deals come with a printable tear sheet.

  2. 02

Drop in an application, get a deal

Dealers drop a credit application and equipment invoices into the portal. A repeatable OCR process sorts each file and reads the applicant and equipment details, calling on AI only when a document is too messy for OCR. The deal opens in Salesforce, documents are filed in Box, and dealers can email a customer the credit application in one step.

  3. 03

A CRM built around the deal

The Golden Capital team works deals through a pipeline shaped to its own stages. Documents run through the same OCR-first intake as they land and check off matching stipulations, credit reports are parsed into the record, deals are screened against every lender program, and stalled deals are flagged.

  4. 04

A website built to be found

Landing pages for key equipment types and industries, structured data for search, a payment calculator and live Google reviews give borrowers answers up front. The credit application sits on the site itself and records where each applicant came from.

The outcome

Software shaped around how Golden Capital works

Golden Capital now has a website that explains its programs and takes applications, a portal that gives dealers their own view of every deal, and a CRM that carries applications, documents, lenders and approvals through to funding. Each piece is built on the team's own stages and vocabulary rather than a generic template, so new steps and integrations can be added as the business grows.
